As promised, here are a few favorite movies not on my top 5 list in no order, and why they're not on there.
Silence of the Lambs
I love this movie. The only reason it didn't end up on my last list is because you don't need a movie about serial killers next to geek movies. It just sends all kinds of wrong messages. Other than that, this is really one of my absolute favorite movies. It's one of the rare occasions where Jodi Foster doesn't make me hate her. Anthony Hopkins is over the top, but damn he's great when he's over the top! Same with Red Dragon.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Okay, I have a good reason this one wasn't on there. The second half of the movie is weak. It has some funny gags there toward the end, but like Jones and Gilliam said you just can't keep that level of comedy going for that long. It just wears the audience down. Probably why I like Life of Brian a little better.
Forrest Gump
As much as I like this one and as touching as the story is, the effects just don't work these days. They really distract me to the point of annoyance. That and I'm starting to feel offended when I see a southern steriotype.
Clerks
Undoubtably Kevin Smith's finest film, it is also quite bad when you look at it. The acting is subpar in places, the editing is iffy, and he relies on obscinities too much. Why do I like it then? Characters. Two of the most well written characters in cinema history. I identify with them. DO MORE CHARACTER STUDIES, SMITH!!
Okay, that's it, I'm going to bed.
